TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria on Wednesday said the capital city’s high vaccination rate against Covid-19 is the main reason the central government decided to move two G20 meetings to Jakarta from the initial location in Bali.

The agendas that will be moved to Jakarta are the 2nd finance and central bank deputies meetings (FCBD) and the 1st finance ministers and central bank governors meetings (FMCBG). The two events were initially scheduled to be held in Nusa Dua on February 15-18.

Despite Jakarta logging an increasing amount of coronavirus cases, the deputy governor said the situation in the capital city is much safer due to the high vaccination rate.

“Jakarta has a high ground with 120 percent vaccination rate. Jakarta, with an abundance of support, is more than prepared,” said Patria at City Hall on January 26. “We are also accelerating the booster vaccinations.”

The move from Bali to Jakarta is officially stated in the letter issued by the Health Ministry No.S-3/G20.33/2022 and signed by the G20 Secretary I of the G20 Meeting Implementation Committee Rudy Rahmaddi.
